Trump's recent UN address, in which he declared Cuba a failed state and predicted "freedom will be coming" to the nation, prompted the Cuban delegation to walk out of the chamber.

In response, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez stated that Cuba remains open to dialogue and commercial relationships with the United States, though he strongly condemned the long-standing trade embargo that has persisted for over 60 years. The escalation of pressure follows the Trump administration's use of military force in January to remove Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, signalling a more assertive approach to regional geopolitics. Both sides have publicly expressed openness to negotiation, though their stated objectives differ substantially.
