## Key points

- Trump says a major Russia deal is close.
- He suggests it could involve all of Europe.
- Kyiv and Moscow are due to hold talks in Abu Dhabi next week.

## Summary

Donald Trump said on Thursday that a major agreement with Russia to end the war in Ukraine was close, and suggested it could involve all of Europe. His comments followed an unscheduled White House meeting with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev, though Trump did not disclose what they discussed or say he had met the Ukrainian officials present.

The remarks came as US, NATO and European representatives held what Jared Kushner called productive discussions on resolving the war, ahead of talks involving Kyiv and Moscow in Abu Dhabi next week. Russian and Ukrainian delegates were at a White House event recognising Melania Trump’s role in brokering a six-day ceasefire in Oleshky; both sides thanked her for her humanitarian efforts.
