Donald Trump is renewing a 10% US import tariff on British goods as temporary levies due to expire are replaced by a more durable regime. The administration says the measures target countries it believes have not adequately prohibited imports made with forced labour, though the UK government says British businesses will face no increase in the existing rate.

The tariffs apply to 60 economies and follow USTR investigations involving hearings, public comments and talks with trading partners. The UK may receive product exemptions, particularly where this would encourage compliance on forced-labour rules; UK goods exports to the US were worth £66 billion in 2024, representing 17% of British goods exports.
