## Key points

- Wiles said Friday was her final day in the role.
- Democrats criticised the appointment as a sign of continued confrontation.

## Summary

Trump has confirmed that Stephen Miller will replace Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff, a change that could shape how his administration deals with the incoming Congress. The appointment has been welcomed by senior allies and condemned by Democratic leaders, while some observers view it as evidence Trump will remain combative.

Wiles said Friday was her last day, describing her service as “the honour of a lifetime” and saying her commitment to Trump would continue. A senior White House source said she resigned on Thursday after major Republican election losses, amid reports that Trump was angry with her. The reshuffle follows several senior Justice Department departures since Election Day; Wiles led Trump’s successful 2024 campaign and held considerable influence in his second administration.
