## Key points

- Trump ordered a DOJ investigation into alleged Democratic threats.
- He accused Senator Elissa Slotkin over comments about young people.
- A grand jury declined to indict Democrats over an earlier video.

## Summary

President Donald Trump said he had ordered the Justice Department to investigate Democratic leaders over alleged threats against Republicans, donors and supporters. He called the alleged conduct extortion but did not identify the communications or provide evidence of a crime.

Trump singled out Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin, interpreting remarks she made at an October event as a plan to target young people with Republican beliefs. Slotkin has previously said she and her family and staff faced intimidation after she and other Democrats urged the military to refuse illegal orders; a grand jury later declined to indict those involved. The White House and Slotkin did not immediately comment.
