## Key points

- Trump criticised Fox News as Republicans lost ground in the midterms.
- He texted CBS about having “ultimate power” if Democrats won Congress.
- Fox’s poll put his approval rating at 38 per cent.

## Summary

Trump expanded his criticism of Fox News during the midterm election night, texting CBS News to claim he would have “ultimate power” if Democrats took control of Congress. The exchange came as Republicans lost ground and Trump blamed Fox’s coverage and polling for the results.

He also attacked the network’s exit poll questions, liberal commentator Jessica Tarlov and Fox’s ratings, which he claimed had fallen by 27 per cent. The poll found 87 per cent of respondents concerned about fuel prices and 62 per cent blaming Trump’s policies; his approval rating was 38 per cent. Trump disputed the findings and sent a message to Fox presenter Greg Gutfeld, who read it live on air.
