Donalds was endorsed by President Donald Trump, making the result a notable win for the president's influence within the Florida Republican Party ahead of the general election.

Donalds is expected to face David Jolly, a former Republican congressman now running as a Democrat, in the general election. On a Fox News appearance, Donalds described Jolly as a "Trojan horse" for the radical left, arguing that Jolly's past criticisms of Florida state policies make him unfit to govern, while pledging to prioritise insurance costs and affordability if elected.
