The second week of Duane “Keffe D” Davis’s trial over the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur ended with both sides completing their cases much sooner than expected. Prosecutors relied heavily on Davis’s own recorded statements, including a 2023 jail recording in which he said, “I got blood on my money”, while the defence sought to raise doubts about the vehicle involved and the police investigation.

The prosecution called 24 witnesses and played more than eight hours of recordings, much of which concerned Davis discussing his alleged role in the killing. Investigators testified that Davis was a senior figure in a Compton gang and that his nephew, Orlando Anderson, allegedly could not have acted without his approval; the defence called three former Las Vegas police officers in under two hours, and Davis did not testify. Jury instructions were due on 28 August, with closing arguments scheduled for 31 August, after which jurors would decide the case.
