Twisted Wonderland, which envisions Disney villains as hot anime boys, returning later this year

Polygon · 5 hours ago

Disney and gacha developer Aniplex have confirmed that the second season of the Twisted Wonderland anime, which reimagines Disney villains as attractive anime characters, will stream exclusively on Disney Plus from December. The show adapts the hugely popular mobile game of the same name, and the announcement gives fans a concrete window for the long-awaited follow-up to the first season.

The new season will focus on the Savanaclaw dorm, based loosely on Scar from The Lion King, meaning a heavier presence of catboy characters. The game, set at Night Raven College and originally written and designed by Black Butler creator Yana Toboso, has earned over $715 million and amassed more than 6 million downloads since launching in 2020. Season one, released last year, ran for eight episodes centred on the Heartslabyul dorm, and the anime is planned to run for three seasons in total; returning staff for season two include director Takahiro Natori and co-director Shin Kataga, with animation again handled by Yumeta Company and Graphinica.

  • Twisted Wonderland anime season 2 lands on Disney Plus this December.
  • New season centres on the Scar-inspired Savanaclaw dorm, with catboys.
  • Underlying gacha game has earned over $715 million since 2020.
