Twitch has introduced an option allowing users to prevent Amazon from using their channel content to train generative AI models, after confirming that such material had been collected by default. The move matters because it gives streamers greater control over streams, clips, images and chat content, while also highlighting growing opposition to technology companies using creators’ work for AI development.

Amazon-owned Twitch said opted-in content would not be sold to other companies, but its chief product officer acknowledged that an opt-in-only system would attract little participation. Users criticised the default collection setting during a Twitch livestream, and Twitch could not say when Amazon began collecting the data or whether content had already been used to train models.
