Two young children and a woman were rushed to hospital after a fairground ride reportedly malfunctioned at Maltby Crags Fair in Rotherham on Friday evening. South Yorkshire Police confirmed that a boy and girl, aged 11 and 13, along with a 21-year-old woman, were injured while on one of the rides and taken to hospital for treatment, prompting a large emergency response and the fairground's closure for the night.

Witnesses described one ride car coming off its track and colliding with another, with several people said to have fallen from the ride. Social media images showed at least six police cars at the scene, and the Air Ambulance is understood to have also attended. Blyth Lane was temporarily closed between Muglet Lane and Victoria Road to allow the safe evacuation of fairgoers but has since reopened. The fair, run by J Holmes & Sons and operating since 9 September, was due to continue through the weekend, though it remains unclear whether it will reopen or which ride was involved.
