Two passengers required medical assistance during a single Jetstar flight from Cairns to Melbourne, prompting cabin crew to call for help from any medical professionals on board. Several passengers, including a recently retired Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) paramedic and a nurse, stepped forward to assist, and one told a Melbourne radio host that crew handled the situation with calm professionalism throughout the ordeal.

Flight JQ33 departed Cairns just before 11am on 16 August and continued on its planned route without diverting, despite the back-to-back emergencies during the roughly three-hour journey. One of the affected passengers was met by an ambulance on landing in Melbourne, and both were said to be recovering. A passenger who contacted 3AW host Jacqui Felgate, along with a social media user who identified themselves as one of the unwell passengers, praised the flight staff and volunteer medics, and Felgate said she had received several messages about the incident. Jetstar has been contacted for comment.
