Two men are charged with murder over death of man, 27, who was punched while cycling

Daily Mail · 3 hours ago

Two men have been charged with murder after a 27-year-old man died from injuries sustained in an "unprovoked" attack while he was cycling in Leicester. George Glover was punched during the assault on Narborough Road at around 6.30am on Monday and later died in hospital, prompting his family to pay tribute to a "hardworking" and "loving" young man. The case underlines the seriousness with which police are treating what they have described as a violent, unprovoked attack.

Chae Smith, 31, and Joshua Cook, 24, have both been charged with murder and robbery, with Smith facing an additional charge of possession of a bladed article. A third person, Louise O'Connor, 39, has been charged with one count of robbery. Mr Glover was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham after being found injured by a member of the public, and died three days later; his family described him as someone who enjoyed gaming, Lego and Pokémon cards and who had overcome physical challenges earlier in life.

George Glover, 27, died after being punched in what police have called an unprovoked attack while he was cycling on Narborough Road in Leicester early on a Monday morning. He was found injured by a passer-by and taken to hospital, where he died three days later. His family have paid tribute to him as a hardworking and loving young man.

Three people have since been charged in connection with his death. Chae Smith, 31, and Joshua Cook, 24, face charges of murder and robbery, with Smith also charged over possession of a bladed article, while Louise O'Connor, 39, has been charged with robbery. The case is now expected to proceed through the courts, where the charges will be tested.

The case has drawn attention both because of the apparently random nature of the attack on a cyclist going about an ordinary morning journey, and because it involves multiple defendants facing different charges, which will need to be resolved separately as the legal process unfolds.
