Two women have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man in his seventies was found dead at a retirement flat in Stockton, County Durham. Police were called to Cedar House, a sheltered housing scheme for over-60s, in the early hours of Tuesday, and detectives from Cleveland Police believe the incident was targeted rather than random, raising concern within the local community about safety at the complex.

Officers were called to the scene at 2.44am before the man was pronounced dead. The two suspects, aged 41 and 54, remain in police custody as Detective Chief Inspector John Bonner and Cleveland Police's homicide and major enquiry team work to establish the full circumstances. Cedar House comprises 44 one-bedroom flats with mobility and wheelchair provision and underwent a £1.9 million refurbishment last year.
