U2 return with Street of Dreams, first single from album in nine years

Variety · 2 hours ago

U2 have released "Street of Dreams", the lead single from their forthcoming album, which will be the band's first collection of all-new studio material in nine years. The single and its music video arrived on digital streaming platforms early on Tuesday, signalling that a full announcement of the album is drawing closer. The album has not yet been given a title or a firm release date, though it has been promised for some time this year.

The record will be U2's first full album of new studio material since "Songs of Experience" nine years ago; their most recent release was 2023's "Songs of Surrender", a set of 40 re-recorded catalogue tracks. This year the band also put out two conceptual EPs, "Days of Ash" and "Easter Lily", though neither's songs will feature on the coming album. The "Street of Dreams" video, directed by Cliqua, was shot in Mexico City and features the band performing atop a graffitied school bus; the song includes several lines in Spanish. Some observers speculate the album could arrive in September, when U2 mark the 50th anniversary of their formation.
