U2 have shared the reworked lyrics to their 2000 hit 'Beautiful Day', written by Bono and The Edge as a tribute performed at Glen Hansard's funeral in Dublin. Hansard, the Oscar-winning star of Once and frontman of The Frames, died on 29 July following a motorcycle crash in Dublin at the age of 56, and his funeral at St Patrick's Cathedral drew a host of major music figures to pay their respects.

Bono and The Edge delivered the rewritten song as a spoken-word piece, inviting mourners to join in, with the new verses referencing Dublin's McDaid's pub and Hansard's roots as a busker before his breakthrough in Once. Bono also played a lullaby voice message sent by Patti Smith after Hansard's death. Other tributes included performances by Eddie Vedder, Markéta Irglová and members of The Frames, Lisa O'Neill singing 'Old Note', and a closing rendition of Bob Dylan's 'Forever Young' led by Liam Ó Maonlaí, Vedder and Bono.
