## Key points

- The Edge reportedly wrote a full “Elf 2” script.
- The project petered out before it was made.
- Andy Richter says the original should stand alone.

## Summary

Andy Richter says U2 guitarist The Edge wrote a complete script for an “Elf” sequel, but the project came to nothing after an initial approach to producer Shauna Robertson. The account offers a glimpse of an unrealised follow-up to a much-loved Christmas film, while Richter argues the original should be left as it is.

Richter also described a separate sequel script by writer Scot Armstrong, involving evil South Pole elves kidnapping Santa. “Elf”, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Will Ferrell, was released in 2003; Richter appeared briefly in it. He said the film’s lasting appeal makes a sequel a risk, and shared the story on a podcast while promoting his book about the film.
