Uber and Pony.ai plan to bring 2,000 robotaxis to Europe

TechCrunch · 2 hours ago

Uber and Chinese autonomous vehicle company Pony.ai plan to deploy 2,000 robotaxis across four European cities under an expanded partnership. The move signals both firms’ efforts to secure a larger role in the emerging robotaxi market, combining Pony.ai’s self-driving technology with Uber’s established ride-hailing platform.

Neither company has disclosed a deployment timetable or the cities involved, saying details will be announced in phases. Pony.ai would provide the autonomous systems, while local partners could manage maintenance, cleaning and charging; ownership of the vehicles may vary by market. The firms first partnered in May 2025 for the Middle East and earlier announced a planned commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia, with local company Verne.
