Uber has announced updates to its senior accounts feature, aimed at giving older riders and those with limited mobility greater independence when booking rides. Previously, senior accounts had to be linked to a family member's standard Uber account for support, but the company is now introducing a self-managed option that lets seniors set up and run their account entirely on their own, without needing outside assistance.

Alongside this, all senior accounts gain a new settings page allowing riders to customise how drivers signal their arrival, activate a simplified "simple mode" interface, and flag mobility aids such as a cane or walker to drivers in advance. Uber is also piloting an "Easy Entry Vehicle" option, which assigns cars without a high step, available to any user via the Accessibility settings page; the trial is running in nine unspecified markets.
