Uber is rolling out live video streaming for its Teen Accounts, letting a linked parent or guardian watch their teenager inside the vehicle during a trip via the driver's front-facing smartphone camera. The move builds on Teen Accounts, launched in 2023 to give younger riders more independence while keeping parents connected to their journeys, and addresses growing demand from families for greater visibility and reassurance during rides they cannot personally accompany.

The feature is currently live in nine US markets, with Uber planning a nationwide rollout over the coming weeks, though it also depends on individual drivers having it switched on. When a ride begins, both the teen and driver are notified if a parent starts watching, and only the linked parent or guardian can access the feed, which Uber says it cannot view in real time. The footage is encrypted and inaccessible to the driver, teen or parent once the trip ends, and is automatically deleted from Uber's servers after 14 days unless retained as part of a safety investigation, meaning parents get live oversight but cannot replay past journeys.
