Huang Youlong lost $60m at Crown Perth in days
New court documents have revealed how Chinese-born Singaporean businessman Huang Youlong gambled away roughly $60million within days at Crown Perth, in what is understood to be one of the largest and fastest casino losses ever recorded in Australia. The details emerged from a judgement handed down by the Hong Kong High Court, which shed light on the protracted legal battle that followed his 2015 high-stakes visit.
Huang, a well-known high-roller then married to Chinese film star Zhao Wei, travelled to Perth on a junket in February 2015. Crown Perth initially refused him credit because of substantial existing gaming debts, but a Crown Melbourne marketing executive, Michelle Chua, arranged an internal deal allowing junket operator Suncity to obtain $40million in chips, with Suncity responsible for recovering any debt. Huang lost that $40million within 48 hours, then took a further $20million to try to recoup his losses, which he also lost.
