Uefa boycott right thing for future of game – Bronze
France still plans to play at next month’s Under-20 Women’s World Cup despite Uefa’s threat to boycott Fifa competitions over Gianni Infantino’s now-abandoned proposal to sell stakes in tournaments to private investors. England defender Lucy Bronze said a boycott would be justified to protect the game’s long-term future, even if women’s football is among the first areas affected.
It remains unclear whether England will compete in the tournament in Poland, which begins on 5 September and includes six European sides. A continued boycott could also disrupt October’s Women’s World Cup qualifiers and the Under-17 Women’s World Cup, while potentially preventing European teams from reaching the 2027 senior World Cup; Infantino has apologised for the proposals, but remains Fifa president.
