## Key points

- Zelenskyy hopes Abu Dhabi talks could lead to a leaders’ meeting with Putin.
- US-mediated discussions are set for 10 and 11 November.
- European governments are seeking involvement in the peace process.

## Summary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he hopes US-mediated talks with Russia in Abu Dhabi will help pave the way for a meeting between him, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. The talks are part of wider diplomatic efforts to end the war, though German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he had yet to see Russia engage seriously on a ceasefire or peace agreement.

The adviser-level discussions are scheduled for 10 and 11 November, with Russia confirming it will send a delegation led by Vladimir Medinsky. US envoy Steve Witkoff said the agenda would include post-war security, de-escalation, humanitarian efforts and next steps towards peace. European governments are seeking a role, but are unlikely to attend in Abu Dhabi; US envoys are due to meet European and NATO representatives in Brussels this week.
