Deadline · 2 hours ago

Universal has become the first Hollywood studio in 2026 to surpass $4 billion at the global box office year-to-date, a milestone reflecting a dominant year fuelled by hits including Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey", "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" and "Michael". It marks Universal's first return to the $4 billion mark since 2023 and only the fifth time in the studio's history, overtaking Disney, which had been the first major to reach $3 billion by the end of June.

Universal's total splits into $1.53 billion domestically and $2.48 billion internationally, with "The Odyssey" now nearing $1 billion worldwide after just three weekends, its running cume standing at $911 million following a $136.2 million third weekend boosted by $68 million from Imax screens. Universal and its Focus Features label account for five of the year's Top 10 highest-grossing films worldwide, including three of the Top Five, while Universal has topped the global weekend box office for 10 weekends so far in 2026. Last year, Warner Bros was the first studio to hit $4 billion, though Disney ultimately finished the year on top.
