Universal Pictures has responded after pirated copies of Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" began circulating on social media, just over a week after the film's release. A lower-quality version was posted on X on Sunday morning and pulled roughly two hours later, but not before amassing nearly 50,000 views, while a reportedly higher-quality copy shared on Saturday racked up millions of views and thousands of reposts before being removed and its posting account suspended.

Universal said it became aware of the unauthorised postings and "immediately initiated takedown protocols," adding that it takes copyright infringement seriously and will pursue "all appropriate remedies." Studios typically anticipate piracy around major releases and work to combat both individual leaks and wider-scale distribution, though takedown speed varies by platform, with Elon Musk-owned X reportedly slow to act on such requests. Despite the leaks, "The Odyssey" continues to perform strongly at the box office, having passed $600 million globally in its second weekend, with a cast including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.
