## Key points

- Rangers want to sign James Penrice permanently.
- His loan includes an option to buy.
- He has earned his first Scotland call-up.

## Summary

James Penrice’s strong start on loan at Rangers has prompted manager Derek McInnes to say the club wants to make his move permanent. The 27-year-old helped Rangers reach the League Cup final by setting up the only goal against Aberdeen, and his performances have also earned him a first Scotland call-up.

Penrice joined Rangers from AEK Athens after they paid £2m for him in 2025. His loan includes an option to buy; reports suggest a fee of about £1.2m had been agreed, though AEK may seek to renegotiate. Rangers are unbeaten in 12 domestic matches and will face Hibernian in December’s final, seeking their first trophy since 2023.
