US mother, 43, is bludgeoned to death in her Irish home ‘by asylum seeker partner, 28, she met at pro-Palestine march’ as suspect flees country
A US-born mother of one, Jamey Carney, 43, has been found bludgeoned to death at her rented home in Killarney, Ireland, with her partner — a 28-year-old asylum seeker she reportedly met at a pro-Palestine march — suspected of the killing and believed to have fled the country. According to the report, her body was discovered by her 13-year-old daughter on Tuesday afternoon, and police are investigating the theory that the man attacked her in a jealous rage over another man she had been messaging. The case has drawn attention amid fears the suspect may evade prosecution after leaving Ireland.
Carney had moved to Ireland five years ago from Westchester County, New York, and is understood to have met the suspect around 18 months earlier at an anti-war protest. Although her body was found at about 1.30pm, investigators believe she was killed late on Monday night or in the early hours of Tuesday and lay dead for up to 13 hours. The suspect, said to be from Jordan, is reported to have booked the earliest available flight to Istanbul at 10.50am on Tuesday and is thought to be heading to his home country, which has no extradition treaty with Ireland; police have issued alerts at ports and airports.
