The US State Department has revoked more than 175,000 visas since President Donald Trump began his second term, officials announced on Monday. The figure, disclosed less than two years into the administration, reflects an intensified use of the department's continuous vetting programme to strip foreign nationals of their legal status in the United States.

State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said that over 100,000 of the revocations occurred under this continuous vetting process, with driving-under-the-influence offences cited among the primary criminal grounds prompting action against visa holders. The announcement underscores the administration's broader push to tighten immigration enforcement and increase scrutiny of foreign nationals already inside the country.
