The United States has granted visas to a smaller Iranian delegation, including President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, to attend next week’s UN General Assembly in New York. The decision comes as the US-Iran war enters its seventh month, with no clear end in sight and growing pressure on Washington to pursue a settlement.

The delegation will face travel restrictions and limits on buying luxury and other goods, continuing rules imposed on Iranian officials last year. The conflict, which began on 28 February with joint US-Israeli attacks, has raised global energy prices and spread to neighbouring countries, while Iran has attacked US bases, Gulf allies and Israel. The US has also refused visas to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his delegation for a second consecutive year.
