USA Network’s ‘Anna Pigeon’ Is the Temu Version of ‘Virgin River’: TV Review

Variety · 3 weeks ago

USA Network’s “Anna Pigeon”, adapted from Nevada Barr’s novels, follows a former Broadway stage manager turned law-enforcement ranger at a fictional Montana Glacier National Park. Variety’s review finds that Tracy Spiridakos gives a strong lead performance and the scenery is striking, but argues that the series is a dull, formulaic procedural resembling a weaker version of “Virgin River”.

The 10-episode first season begins with Anna investigating a missing ranger, defying her supervisor and drawing in an FBI friend, which brings her into conflict with a wealthy landowner. Across the reviewed six episodes, she tackles cases involving murder, bank robbery and a missing girl, while dealing with her late husband’s unsolved murder; the reviewer says predictable plots, implausible twists and wooden dialogue undermine its supporting storylines.

  • Strong lead performance cannot overcome a formulaic procedural.
  • Anna investigates crimes in fictional Montana’s Glacier National Park.
  • The review praises scenery but criticises predictable writing.
