Vanessa Bosåen exits Virgin Music Group, where she’s led the UK business since 2021
Vanessa Bosåen is departing Virgin Music Group, where she has led the UK arm since its 2021 launch, confirming her exit in a staff note shared with Music Business Worldwide and posted publicly on LinkedIn. Her departure follows Virgin Music Group's £775 million (USD $775 million) acquisition of Downtown Music Holdings, completed on 20 February, and a subsequent restructuring of the company's global and regional leadership announced on 30 June, which placed senior executives from both Virgin and Downtown under new co-CEOs JT Myers and Nat Pastor.
Bosåen, previously known as Vanessa Higgins, was named managing director of the UK division when Universal Music Group launched Virgin Music Label & Artist Services in February 2021, rebranding its Caroline and Caroline International operations; she had joined from Regent Street Records, the independent label and publisher she founded in 2014 after 15 years as a touring musician. In her note, she credited the UK business's growth into one of the group's flagship operations to artists and campaigns including Rema's "Calm Down", D-Block Europe, Beabadoobee, Self Esteem and Melanie C. She did not name a successor or reveal her next move; in Europe, Nick Roden was appointed President and Liz Northeast SVP and General Manager as part of the June restructuring.
