A former Derbyshire Constabulary sergeant nicknamed "Hot Fuzz" has been charged with misconduct offences after allegedly using his position to try to start sexual or otherwise inappropriate relationships with several women, including two fellow police officers. The case, brought following an investigation overseen by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), highlights renewed scrutiny of alleged abuse of position for sexual purposes within UK policing.

Tarjinderjit Nizzer, 57, who resigned in February this year, faces eight counts of misconduct in public office over claims that between January 2020 and November 2024 he contacted six members of the public and two officers to instigate improper relationships. He also faces a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice, relating to the cancellation of a traffic offence report, and a computer misuse charge over allegedly running unauthorised checks on a person. Nizzer earned his nickname, a reference to the film starring Simon Pegg, after moving from investigating serious crime in a city to a neighbourhood policing role in Swadlincote. He is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on 2 October.
