Villa in talks to sign Chelsea’s Garnacho

BBC Sport · 5 hours ago

Aston Villa are in advanced talks to sign Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho, most likely initially on loan but with a potential obligation to make the move permanent. The 21-year-old Argentine had been made available by Chelsea for around £43m last month, and this deal would form part of a busy summer of transfer activity between the two clubs following Chelsea's £117m capture of Villa's Morgan Rogers.

Garnacho joined Chelsea from Manchester United only last September for roughly £40m but has struggled for game time, scoring just one Premier League goal, with United still owed 10% of any future sale. Chelsea's need to trim their squad has grown after also signing Rogers and Sporting winger Geovany Quenda, and striker Nicolas Jackson (valued at £65m) has also been discussed as part of a separate move to Villa. If completed, Garnacho would be Villa's fourth summer signing, following Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes and Modou Kaba Cisse, while the club have also sold close to £200m worth of players, including Tielemans, Malen, Barrenechea and Dobbin.
