## Summary

Aston Villa say they will take legal action against Jamie Carragher over remarks the club has called “unacceptable insults”. The dispute follows criticism from Villa supporters after the pundit said manager Unai Emery might be interested in the Manchester United job and that Villa would never match United’s status.

Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris said the club would not allow anyone to hinder its progress in English and European football. Carragher told Villa fans to “shut the [expletive] up”, later saying the comment was a joke after criticism on his social media. He said Emery was the best manager in the league, while stressing he had not predicted Emery would leave Villa.
