Viral Disneyland Content Creator Defends Her ‘Special Friendship’ With Peter Pan

Wired · 3 hours ago

Toni Kulusich, a 27-year-old Los Angeles-based Disney content creator, has gone viral and faced widespread online mockery after a video showing her gifting a crocheted duck keychain to Disneyland's Peter Pan character drew accusations of unhealthy obsession. Kulusich, who is married and works full-time as a retail manager, insists her devotion to Peter Pan is simply a hobby that lets her reconnect with her "inner child" while at the park, and denies any romantic fixation on the character.

The backlash escalated rapidly after 2 August, with the video's views climbing from 10,000 to a million and her TikTok following more than doubling from around 50,000 to 125,000. Critics dug up decade-old meet-and-greet clips, launched a Change.org petition seeking her ban from Disney parks, scrutinised Peter Pan's body language for signs of discomfort, and even doxxed her workplace, forcing her manager to alter her shifts for safety. Dubbed "Peter Pan Girl" and compared to Netflix's Baby Reindeer, Kulusich says the episode has taken a toll on her mental health and reflects wider internet trends around misinformation, TikTok pile-ons, and disdain for so-called "Disney adults."
