Virginia university says feds did not disclose student’s terror conviction before attack
Old Dominion University said federal authorities did not tell it that a student had a previous ISIS-related conviction before he carried out a deadly terror attack on campus in March. The case has raised questions about whether universities receive sufficient information to assess risks posed by students with terrorism-related histories.
The attack occurred on 12 March in Norfolk, Virginia, where ROTC cadets reportedly intervened to stop the assailant after he killed Lt Col Brandon Shah. The university said it had not been informed of the student’s criminal background by federal officials before the shooting.
