Joe Biden brings cherished 1967 Corvette to Rhode Island car show
Former President Joe Biden, 83, made a surprise appearance at the Audrain Newport Concours d'Elegance car show in Newport, Rhode Island on Sunday, bringing his treasured 1967 Corvette Sting Ray. Video footage showed the visibly frail former president moving slowly as he spent time with car collectors and onlookers, joined by comedian Jay Leno. His Corvette won the 'Spirit of Audrain Award' and Biden was presented with a lifetime museum membership and a commemorative jacket.
Biden's appearance marks a rare public outing since he dropped out of his reelection campaign in July 2024 and stepped down as president in January 2025. In May 2025, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had metastasised to his bones, limiting his public activities. The 1967 Corvette, a wedding gift from his father who owned a car dealership in Delaware, has long been central to Biden's public identity and was featured on Jay Leno's Garage show in 2016.
