A serving Western Australian police officer has been stood down after being charged over the alleged assault of his five-week-old baby. Nickolas Wayne Peake, 30, appeared in Midland Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty, with the case now set to return for sentencing.

The baby was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital as a precaution following the incident. Child Abuse Squad detectives charged Peake with aggravated common assault on Sunday, and sentencing is scheduled for 13 October; authorities have not provided further details about the alleged assault.
