Actor Wagner Moura has drawn a parallel between his new Netflix film "The Last House" and the collective hope for change following COVID-19 lockdowns. Discussing the film's ending with CinemaBlend, the Oscar nominee said he wishes the family at the centre of the story finds positive outcomes from the upheaval they endure, much as he had once hoped society would emerge from the pandemic with a lasting shift in mindset, an outcome he feels never fully materialised.

In "The Last House," directed by Louis Leterrier, Moura and Greta Lee play Jason and Ann, whose Seattle home becomes a prison for them and their two children when mysterious floodwaters trap the family for five years while sea monsters roam outside. Moura explained that he expected COVID to leave the world fundamentally changed, but believes it largely did not, and so hopes the fictional Delgado family's escape brings about the transformation that reality failed to deliver. The film, now streaming, has also been promoted with a stunt in which a man has been living inside a house built atop a billboard on Sunset Boulevard, communicating with passers-by via whiteboard.
