Wakefield Trinity pulled off a sensational upset to defeat Wigan Warriors in the Super League play-off semi-final, securing their first-ever Grand Final appearance. This result ended Wigan's hopes of winning a treble, having already secured the Challenge Cup and League Leaders' Shield. The pivotal moment came when Wigan centre Adam Keighran received a yellow card for a late tackle, after which Wakefield capitalised on their numerical advantage to register 33 unanswered points.

Wakefield's five tries were scored by Tom Johnstone (twice), Jack Sinfield, Corey Hall and Ky Rodwell, with Max Jowitt converting six tries and Mason Lino adding a drop-goal. Wigan entered the semi-final on a 16-game winning run but were undone at home by an outstanding Wakefield display. Wakefield will now face Warrington Wolves in the Grand Final on Saturday, 3 October, with the chance to become Super League champions after their remarkable rise from the Championship just two years earlier under owner Matt Ellis and head coach Daryl Powell.
