Wales claim two swimming medals on dramatic night
Wales won two further swimming bronzes at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, taking their overall medal tally to three. Para-swimmer Rhys Darbey was promoted to third in the men’s S14 200m freestyle after team-mate Dylan Broom, who initially finished ahead of him, was disqualified for an early start; Wales also took bronze in the 4x100m mixed freestyle relay.
The relay team of Olympic champion Matt Richards, Dan Jones, Rebecca Sutton and 17-year-old Theodora Taylor finished strongly after Wales changed all four swimmers from their heat line-up. Sutton and Taylor withdrew from individual semi-finals to concentrate on the relay, with Taylor moving the team from fifth to third on the final leg; earlier, Rose Williams narrowly missed a medal with fourth place in the women’s S14 200m freestyle.
