Warrington bounce back to brush aside Hull KR

BBC Sport · 6 hours ago

Warrington Wolves bounced back from a poor run of form to thrash reigning Super League champions Hull KR 34-6, moving to within two points of second place in the table. The result eases the pressure on Wire's play-off ambitions after three defeats in their previous four games, while leaving Hull KR, who have also lost three of their last four matches, at risk of dropping out of the top six.

Warrington raced into a 22-0 half-time lead through tries from Lachlan Webster, James Harrison, Matty Ashton and Danny Walker, before Joe Philbin, back from injury, and a second Ashton try, his 101st for the club, extended the advantage further. Hull KR's replies came from Oliver Gildart and James Batchelor, with Mikey Lewis sin-binned late on for a challenge on Ewan Irwin, who booted five goals. Hull KR boss Willie Peters had admitted before kick-off that defeat would likely end his side's defence of the League Leaders' Shield.
