## Key points

- Netflix-first trailer highlights GTA 6’s visual ambitions.
- Better streaming quality may have driven Rockstar’s partnership.
- Timed exclusivity has raised concerns about hubris.

## Summary

Polygon argues that Rockstar’s decision to debut Grand Theft Auto 6’s extended trailer first on Netflix reflects both a practical concern for visual quality and the studio’s confidence in the game’s cinematic scale. While Netflix may present the footage with deeper blacks, cleaner detail and fewer compression artefacts than YouTube, the timed exclusivity on a subscription service has also prompted concerns that Rockstar is overreaching.

The article suggests Rockstar wanted viewers to watch GTA 6 on televisions or consoles, possibly with friends, in conditions closer to how they will play it. It portrays the game as visually lavish and film-influenced, with protagonists Jason and Lucia appearing more understated than GTA 5’s leads, but stresses that the footage remains distinctly game-focused through its unannounced blend of gameplay, cutscenes and montage.
