Charli XCX made a surprise appearance during the Strokes' headlining set at Outside Lands festival in San Francisco on Saturday, joining the band to perform their 2001 track "Take It Or Leave It". The cameo comes just weeks after both acts released new albums on the same day, Charli's Music, Fashion, Film and the Strokes' Reality Awaits, both dropping on 24 July.

Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas introduced Charli as a "superstar" guest and jokingly referenced the shared release date and any sales rivalry, telling the crowd "we had a great battle, you defeated us." Charli had headlined the festival in her own right the previous night, marking her Outside Lands debut, while the event continues in Golden Gate Park with further sets from acts including Baby Keem, Death Cab for Cutie, Empire of the Sun and Mariah the Scientist.
