## Key points

- The ballad reflects on love that may not last.
- Couples have got engaged to it at his New York shows.

## Summary

The new video for “Coming Up Roses” shows Harry Styles waltzing with romantics as the song explores a relationship that has gone awry. Its release draws attention to the contrast between the song’s message that love need not last for ever to matter and couples getting engaged to it during his New York shows.

The ballad is the fourth single from Styles’ album *Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally*, following “Aperture”, “American Girls” and “Dance No More”. Styles said it began as an attempt to write a Christmas song, but became a love song about how something can be special even if it does not last. One couple got engaged during the song at his 30-night Madison Square Garden residency, which is due to end with three final shows.
