## Key points

- Vance held election eve rallies in New York and Ohio.
- He backed Anthony Constantino in New York and Republican candidates in Ohio.
- The visits aimed to boost turnout before the midterm vote.

## Summary

US Vice President JD Vance campaigned for Republican candidates in New York and Ohio on Monday 2 November, the day before the midterm elections. In Rome, New York, he appeared in support of Anthony Constantino, who is contesting the 21st Congressional District against Democrat Blake Gendebien. The seat is being vacated by Republican Elise Stefanik, and Donald Trump won the district by 21 points in 2024. Several hundred people attended the rally, where Vance urged Republican voters to turn out.

Vance then travelled to Swanton, Ohio, as Republicans sought support for Senator Jon Husted and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. Husted faces former Democratic senator Sherrod Brown, while Ramaswamy faces Democrat Amy Acton. The visits formed part of the Republicans’ final effort to bring supporters to the polls, with control of Congress at stake. The rallies showed the party concentrating on turnout even in areas that had recently voted strongly Republican; they did not establish how voters would decide on Election Day.
