The Strokes performed ‘Lonely In The Future’ in its completed form live for the first time at their Summer Sonic Tokyo headline set. The appearance matters as the song is a recent track from ‘Reality Awaits’, the band’s first album in six years, and had previously only been played in improvised or shortened versions.

The band opened their 18-song set at ZOZO Marine Stadium in Chiba on 14 August with the track, alongside ‘Going Shopping’ and ‘Dine N’Dash’ from the new album. The set also included established songs such as ‘Reptilia’, ‘Last Nite’ and ‘Someday’; The Strokes play Summer Sonic Osaka on 15 August before continuing a world tour that reaches the UK in October.
