## Key points

- Fraud allegations dominated Minnesota’s final governor debate.
- Demuth promised new commissioners and stronger accountability.
- The candidates blamed different causes for high fuel costs.

## Summary

Minnesota’s final governor’s debate between Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar and Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth focused on a $9 billion fraud scandal, health care and rising petrol prices. The candidates also argued over outgoing Governor Tim Walz’s record, with Demuth portraying Klobuchar as a continuation of his administration and Klobuchar saying he should have acted sooner on fraud.

Demuth said she would replace state commissioners and change what she called a culture of fraud, while Klobuchar promised to prosecute fraudsters and stressed that Walz is not seeking another term. On fuel costs, Klobuchar blamed the Iran war, while Demuth pointed to state spending and said the Keystone pipeline could have added 830,000 barrels of oil. The article’s text ends part-way through Demuth’s remarks about affordability.
