Homeowners in Winton, Bournemouth, are opposing plans to expand the Jamei Mosque amid growing tension over noise and parking, with some residents saying early morning prayers leave them unable to sleep. The mosque, which already holds up to 600 people, wants to build into its roof space to add a meeting room and a women and children's assembly area, but neighbours argue the site has already outgrown its residential surroundings and further expansion would worsen existing problems.

Residents have complained of being woken as early as 4am by worshippers, amplified microphone use during prayers, chatter after late-night services and cars driving over the gravel car park. Parking is a particular flashpoint, with vehicles reportedly left on double yellow lines, blocking driveways and junctions, and even blocking in residents' cars, leading to heated confrontations. Locals, including 62-year-old Beverley Gilbert, who has lived on the street for 34 years, insist their objections are about planning rules and safety rather than race, warning that extending parking further along the road could create an "accident waiting to happen."
