During Guns N' Roses' recording sessions for the Use Your Illusion albums in 1991, police discovered a dismembered arm and head in a dumpster behind Studio 56 in Los Angeles, temporarily halting the band's work. The incident became notable enough to inspire one of the album's tracks, demonstrating how even a macabre real-world event became part of the band's creative output during this ambitious two-album project.

The discovery led band member Izzy Stradlin to write the opening line of "Double Talkin' Jive," which begins with "Found a head and an arm in the garbage can, don't know why I'm here." Slash later added a Spanish flamenco part to the song, transforming the disturbing incident into a memorable piece of the Use Your Illusion recordings. The sessions themselves were challenging, with band members difficult to coordinate, though the band ultimately succeeded in creating the complex, layered albums they intended as their definitive statement following their debut, Appetite for Destruction.
